Why Most Factories Ask for High Minimums

A factory's MOQ is not a random number. It comes from the fixed costs that every order carries, whether it is 50 pieces or 5,000. The bigger the factory, the higher those fixed costs, and the more pieces it needs to cover them.

These are the five places where minimums come from:

• Yarn: spinning mills sell yarn in large lots, usually by the ton. A factory that buys yarn for each order separately has to order far more than 50 garments need.

• Knitting: every fabric needs its own machine setup. The knitter changes the yarn, sets the stitch length, and knits a test piece to check GSM and width before the real run starts. That setup takes the same hour for 20 kilos of fabric as for 2,000.

• Dyeing: dye machines are built for large batches. Dyeing a small lot uses almost the same water, energy and chemicals as a full one, so dye houses charge more for small lots or refuse them.

• Cutting and sewing: a cutting marker has to be made for each style and size set, and a sewing line needs time to learn a new style. On a 50-piece order, that setup is a large share of the total work.

How We Make 50 Pieces Possible

1. Our factory was set up for small and medium runs, and we control the steps that create most of the fixed cost.

2. We knit our own fabric on 12 circular knitting machines. There is no fabric mill minimum between you and your order: we knit the quantity your styles need.

3. We work with the same partner dye house on every order, so small dye lots are planned into its schedule instead of being refused.

4. More than 140 stitching machines run across several lines. We give small orders their own line time, so a 50-piece order runs next to larger ones instead of waiting behind them.

5. Our in-house team makes the markers and patterns, and we source labels and trims through regular suppliers who already work with our small-order volumes.

6. Knitting, stitching and printing happen under one roof, so there is no extra minimum from outside print shops or sewing units.

7. There is one honest trade-off. A 50-piece order still carries some setup cost, so its unit price is higher than at 300 or 1,000 pieces. That is why we show price tiers in every quote: you start small at a fair price, and your cost per piece drops as your brand grows.

How to Split Your 50 Pieces

You don't need 50 pieces of one color in one size. Inside each style, you choose the colors and the size split. A common first order is two colors in five sizes, which gives a new brand a full size run from day one.
