Ladies Gym Wear vs. Activewear: What's the Real Difference?

If you are launching a women’s fitness brand, you will hear two terms everywhere: gym wear and activewear. Many new brand owners use them interchangeably, but they are different product categories with different fabrics, construction and price points.

AA Knits is a family-run apparel manufacturer in Faisalabad, Pakistan, part of the Uzair Textile family . We produce both categories for brands in the USA, UK, KSA, Europe and Australia. Knowing the difference helps you choose the right fabric, control cost and position your brand correctly.

What Is Ladies Gym Wear?

Gym wear is engineered for performance. Fabric, panels and stitching are chosen to survive intense training such as weightlifting, HIIT, CrossFit and hard cardio.

We typically make gym wear from polyester and spandex (85/15) at 240 to 280 GSM. Polyester is durable, holds compression wash after wash, and keeps bold colors from fading. At 240 GSM and above, the fabric is also suited to squat-proof opacity, which we test on request.

Key features of our gym wear:

  • High-compression, tummy-control waistband

  • 4-needle, 6-thread flatlock stitching for durability

  • No-front-seam construction for zero distraction

  • Breathable mesh panels and side phone pockets

  • Sweat-wicking, opaque fabric

What Is Ladies Activewear?

Activewear, also called athleisure, is designed for movement and everyday life. It is where performance meets lifestyle, and it covers yoga, pilates, barre, walking and casual wear.

For this category we recommend nylon and spandex (80/20) at 240 to 280 GSM. Nylon has a softer, buttery hand feel, a natural premium sheen and strong 4-way stretch recovery.

Key features of our activewear:

  • Buttery-soft touch for all-day comfort

  • Scrunch construction for a sculpted look

  • High-waist and 7/8 length cuts

  • Full sublimation printing for trend-led prints

  • Lightweight, breathable fabric

If your brand targets the premium lifestyle and yoga market, activewear is your hero product.

Which Should You Choose for Your Private Label Brand?

Many strong brands do not choose one. They offer both, and you can start with either:

  1. Launch a performance line. Use polyester gym wear. It is budget-friendly, durable, and well suited to wholesale, gyms and fitness studios.

  2. Launch a studio line. Use nylon activewear. It lets you price your private label leggings higher with the premium feel customers pay extra for.

At AA Knits we keep this simple. Our capacity is 200,000+ pieces per month, with a low MOQ of 50 pieces per style. We can produce both lines in the same factory, with consistent sizing and quality. Knitting, stitching, printing and packing are handled under one roof, and our materials are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. Not sure which fabric suits your collection? Our team will guide you on GSM, compression and opacity before you place an order. Learn more about low MOQ private label manufacturing.
